Book was easy to read with a few cliffhangers that make you anxious to finish reading.
I started reading this book, and 10% through I was ready to stop. I was talking to my daughter and asked her at what point she gives up on a book. she told me she has never given up on any book regardless. so I kept reading. I am not a prude but the wording in this book is very crude. (The wording actually felt like a teenaged boy was writing this) It has a lot of senseless details and when I finally was interested in the plot (at least a third of the way through) it skipped over the actual action of the plot and was just page after page of one sided conversations and thoughts. The "birth mother" phrase was over used, the secretive phone calls were figured out long before the author let the readers "know" who was on the line... all in all, the story line could have been a lot more interesting with more action and dialog. The plot was a good one, but it lacked substance and was very slow. Usually I get pulled into a book and can't put it down, into the wee hours and this one was a bedtime story for me taking a week to 10 days of reading till I got sleepy.... the slowness helping to rid me of insomnia. I give it a 3 star because I did not hate the book and like I said it did have a good plot... eventually, it just took a long time to get there and never was a "can't put it down" book. I would try another book from this author just to see if the work progresses. This feels like a first book.
Baby Stetson by Nikki Lynn Barrett
Book 1 in Love and Music in Texas
As a newborn baby Avery Callimer was found at the local Bed and Breakfast Inn. Someone had placed her in a Stetson hat on their steps.
The owners of the Inn in Harmony Echo, adopted her and gave her the love that she needed. They may not have been rich but she got what she needed.
Now Avery is a country music artist by night and she works at the Inn by day. Life is stable and she is content, until the NEW guest arrive in town. They are strangers and come with their set of secrets and lies.
Lucas Bennett is one of the strangers. His secrets include cleaning up one mess after another for someone he will not and cannot divulge who this person is. These messes are not his own but someone else's. He did not plan to fall for Avery, as growing up he did not know love. His parents were into things they should not have been and he always felt unloved. So different from the way Avery was brought up.
Avery never found out who had left the in that Stetson hat but things started falling into place. Avery got a letter from someone who stated he was her father. He then also arrived in town at the Inn. Avery met him and they agreed to have a blood test. Of course he knew someone who would rush the test so they would know.
But will love the twist when you read that Rodney is not her father and he wants to hurt her. She also finds out who her father was and who her mother is and the story of how she was left in the hat.
I love books by Nikki Lynn Barrett. I am partial to country music but you do not need to love it to love this story. Can't wait to read the other book in this 4 book series and book 5 is coming out soon.
Finally a book that showed love is about trust and faith. This was one of the most realistic love stories I've read in a long time, it showed that love is worth all the ups and downs that life throws your way , just believe and trust in each other !!
I purchased this book several months ago and just got an opportunity to read it. I'm so glad I finally did. I put it down only to sleep. I learned to cook dinner while reading, the story was that good.
Avery is 32 years old but acted a good bit younger & immature at times. But then after she was kidnapped and hospitalized she grew up emotionally and I was so proud of her.
